Sanremo 2011 - seconda serata LIVE

Join me at 21.15 CET for the second night of Sanremo festival live blogging.
The remaining 12 Big and four of the newcomers will perform tonight. Two more Big will join Annas Tatangelo and Oxa in second chance tomorrow, and only two of the four newcomers will move on to Friday's final. There will be again the jury in Teatro Ariston: 300 people chosen by their music using habits, age and gender from all over Italy. And they are not the same ones as last night but all new ones! That's for the Big. The newcomers will have to face the judgement of the orchestra and televote 50-50.

21.20 Here we go again. And we start again with some acrobatics on stage of Teatro Ariston.
21.22 Morandi is back on stage and after welcome talks about the eliminations last night. Apparently, as always, not everyone has been happy. Then we see a snippet of Anna Tatangelo's song. Anyways, during her song the peak of audience was reached last night, over 17 million. Then we get to see and hear a snippet of Anna Oxa.
21.27 enters "the most loved Argentinian by Italians" (why? aren't there any foorballers?) in a black number and lower heals tonight so Morandi doesn't look so tiny....
21.30 enters Elisabetta Canalis in white from the glass elevator on stage, or space capsule. Tonight the ladies get on stage early unlike last night when we waited for an hour or so.... The imaginary (?) fight between the girls goes on.
21.32 Time for some songs and we start with Nathalie! Looks like she wearing the same dress as last night but different color. Are there problems with audio or is it my PC? Is she vocally a bit lost tonight? She was lost for sure for a moment when she stood up from the piano to walk to center stage. Not a good performance at all. Shame. :-(
21.37 from a debutant to a real veteran, this is Albano's 15th Sanremo.Have you noticed he has the same way of moving microphone than Carola? Well, both do have big voices.... I kinda like the melody of the song and the arrangement. The lyrics then... well. a bit like Seis! by Tommi Soidinmäki in Euroviisut 2011 they can easily disturb a little. Or more. But a better performance by Albano than last night, more relaxed and vocally controlled. And off we go for pubblicitá!
21.46 enter Luca and Paolo. They were treating rather bad Berlusconi (their employer really as they usually work in Mediaset and are only borrowed by RAI) and promise to be even worse tonight.
21.50 it's time for Modá and Emma. The sound is horrible. Is it the mixing or my PC? I think it must be mixing. The guitars way too loud.  Still, I don't hear the greatness of this track that makes it one of the favourites...
21.57 time for Patty Pravo. Hair down with black, almost catsuit like thing she looks like 100 years youngers than in last night's granny look I'm warming up to the song, too. Much more relaxed (and better) performance tonight. .
22.02 Tricarico next The sound problems seem to have been fixed finally - or is it only because the song's very acoustic and simple? Anyways, he performs better tonight but the song still says nothing to me if not irritation. Time for a break!
22.13 we are back! Luca and Paolo are praising Morandi. And tonight the ladies bring flowers to the guys. Flowers of Sanremo of course, the flower city!
22.15 Time for Luca Madonia ft. Franco Battiato. The song sounds even more like Battiato's 1980's stuff in melody and arrangement when you hear it again. Only thing missing are the heavy synthetizers! Battiato himself enters in the end of the song, sings his few lines and then they finish the song together. Absolutely not for Eurovision but I like it. Battiato fans will vote for this but hardly the others.
22.20 And then it's Max Pezzali. He has changed his jacket and look and looks more suitable for Sanremo now, and even sings better. This is maybe the only uptempo pop song in the contest but it isn't really that great. I hope the special jury won't think this is what Europe wants: a middle aged man trying to be young singing an average uptempo song. The other countries do this kind of music better I'm afraid.
22.26 And then it's La Crus. This is nostalgic stuff from the 1960's or something, spiced up with the soprano towards the end. beautiful melody and well performed. Me likes. But does the jury like it? I don't know. And then we go for a short break before the international special guest. Should ne Andy Garcia?
22.34 we are back.  And here comes Andy Garcia. And we are off to a horrible simultaneously dubbed interviews... Andy praises Italy and so on....and then Andy plays piano and sings with Morandi. Cuba libre! Oh and the ladies have changed dresses again.
22.49 And we continue the real thing. Luca Barbarossa and Spanish Raquel Del Rosario. I like this more and more. Could be even good for Eurovision? Nice arrangement and their voices in some weird way blend together after all, catchy refrain. Me likes. And she's wearing nude colored minidress tonight. And for your infermation: Elisabetta wears Pucci, Belen Fendi e Morandi Ferragamo.
22.55 Time for Davide Van De Sfroos.Well, I liked this last night and now I wonder why? Good vocally and interesting arrangement but maybe it's not my cup of tea after all.... And then it's time for a break after Morandi reminds about tomorrow's special night celebrating the 150th anniversary of inification of Italy.
23.05 And we are back. With Luca and Paolo. Let's see how they manage to entertain and scandalize us all tonight!?!
23.14 And we are back to business with Roberto Vecchioni. He's a bit of a legend and propably will win all the critics awards this time. The song isn't bad and the beat is very 1980's but like many others he's in top form tonight. The terror of the first night in the stage of Teatro Ariston seems to have had a few victims last night.Huge appaluse for Roberto. Is he going to win it all?
23.21 And it's time for the last Big tonight. Giusy Ferreri. She was first last night and last tonight, what a twist of fate! She again dressing something weird and half naked in front and challenging shoes Her voice sounds stranger than ever. I wish Tiziano Ferro would have written her something better instead  of this rock  song written by Bulgaro....
23.26 We have now heard the 12 Big songs and soon we'll know who have been eliminated. I think Van De Sfroos and unfortunately Nathalie. I would eliminate Van De Sfroos and Ferreri.
23.29 Belen Rodriguez now raping fantastic Bebe's fabulous Malo on stage. :-(
23.33 It's time for the newcomers. We already know the songs from radio and internet unlike the Big that were heard for the first time last night (and their singles and albums were released mostly today). They were 700 and eight made it to Teatro Ariston. There's a televote (you can vote 5 times from one phone) and the Sanremo orchestra will provide the juryvote 50%. After last year's televote scandals with use of call centers etc this year the control is better and punishment to match - including the fact the song gaining votes this way can be disqualified. Let's see how it goes!
23.36 First newcomer is Serena Abrami singing Niccoló Fabi's Lontano da tutto. This was one of my favourites beforehand and she performs it with elegance in dark blue evening gown. Rather acoustic little sweet song. me likes.
23.40 Finally they interview a bit the singers as well. Serena declares herself nervous but happy to have made it this way! And then Luca and Paolo are on  stage telling there's been a mistake with the telephone numbers to call from home... Oh dear... "Don't call the numbers we gave you but these number..." Sigh.
23.43 Next is Anansi with Il sole dentro.Dreadlocks and reggar-rap for Sanremo? Well it's quite a nice song, full of sunshien as the title suggest but not much more. He isn't the greatest of singers either but works for this kind of song. He's happy with everything in short interview, everything's cool.
If the jury vote comes from the orchestra what will they vote for? They didn't have to work much with Serena, and the part with Anansi wasn't very hard either.... Well, it's time for a break again!
23.51 And we are back with  Gabriella Ferrone and Un pezzo d'estate. The song tries to be modern but all you can hear is her weird way of pronouncing - ouuu, like faking an American accent or something - ouuu.... Next!
23.57 And it's time for the last newcomer for tonight, Raphael Gualazzi and his Follie d'amore. This is kinf of jazzypop that has made success in Sanremo a few times and I guess he will be battling the critic's awards with Vecchioni but will the voters home go for this? A jury vote should be easy. Not exactly my favourite but then for Eurovision, I hope the jury won't think this is what Europe wants either!
So, I guess Raphael and Serena will qualify.
00.03 Televote is finished. And we have Luca and Paolo doing a strip tease..... Well, sort of!
00.09 Time for the international guest star: Eliza Doolittle!
(I have given a quick look at the other live reports and it is quite hilarious to see some quite funny mistakes. Well, if you don't speak Italian it may be a bit confusing and difficult to follow what's going on :-) )
00.16 and now it's time for the results. All four newxomers are on stage and waiting......All four tell how great it is to be there and whatever happens it has been great..... And Serena Abrami is in! And so is Raphael Gualazzi! What did I say? :-)
00.24 After commercial break we are back and it's time for some pole dancing.....
00.29 Ok, it's time for the results. The first qualifier is....  Davide Van De Sfroos!? Ok... La Crus! Nathalie! Phew, she did it! Tricarico, still here, sigh.Luca Madonia ft Franco Battiato! :-)
00.34 Giusy Ferreri! Oh well... Roberto Vecchioni. Luca Barbarossa and Raquel Del Rosario :-) Max Pezzali and we have only one more..... Modá with Emma!
00.37 Albano and  Patty Pravo are out. They have a second chance tomorrow night with Anna Oxa and Anna Tatangelo.
00.40 All presenters on stage and Morandi reminds us about illegal downloading nicely on the day when most every Sanremo artist has released a new album. Buona notte da Blogilkar as well and see you tomorrow night again with the special night where all singers sing Italian classics! Good night!

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

SONGS OF THE YEAR 2015: #5 KRISTA SIEGFRIDS - ON & OFF

Krista Siegfrids is delivering nice pop tunes one after another and this one is particularly catchy and soon you will be singing along..... Hopefully her Melodifestivalen entry will be equally good!

ESC 2013: SERBIA'S BIG GUNS

Serbia is one of the most succesful Eurovision countries in the recent years and this blogger 's favorites. This year I am again very curiously waiting for their entry and what they will offer us when they have a national final once again after last year's internal selection. Many bigger and smaller names have been rumored to have sent a song, or have confirmed so themselves. Among then a 63-year-old disco diva Neda Ukraden , Eurovision veteran Vukašin Brajić 's OT Band, Danijel Pavlovic who is Marija Serifovic's step-brother, national final veteran Ana Nikolic and other names like Nenad Cvijetic , Dejan Petrovic, Zejna , Ivana Pavkovic , Vanja Mijatovic .... Let's see who really are in when the final 15 out of 80 will be announced for the March 2, 2013 final. These 15 will be cut to five for the superfinal by televoting. Then we have Bojan Bjelic , who apparently was sending his song Mora before he decided not to blaming the contest is fixed and Serbian

GOODBYE, FAREWELL...

The time has come. After all these years, 5,7 million visits, 12.000 articles I guess the time has come. As much as I love and care for Eurovision it just doesn't feel the same. The Corona years took their toll and the past two years and certain decisions have helped me to mature the idea that next year I will hear the songs for the first time in semi-final just like any so called local.  The bubble has burst. Add the toxicity in social medias and fandom. The arrogant teenagers who saw their first contest somewhere 2017 or even 2021 who think they know it all and only their opinion matters. Did I mention the toxic atmosphere on social medias? I'm too old for that sh*t. It's been a long ride that took me to various Eurovision on spot as a fan and tourist,  as a journalist, as a delegation member. I met some great people, made memories of lifetime. In stressful, sad periods of my life this blog has been my safe place, a place to escape and forget everything else for an hour o

Summer songs: Samantha Fox & Sabrina - Call me

Summertime is the time for cover versions and remixes. The late 1980's war of the boombs is over when Samantha and Sabrina put their bras together and cover Blondie's Call me in peace and harmony. Amore, chiamami!

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further?  No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

Et voilà! Anggun presents Echo (You and I)

So today we finally heard the French entry in Eurovision 2012 in Baku by Anggun. Echo (You and I ) is rather bizarre mix of many things and just when you think you get it the songs takes a turn to another direction. Whistling all along. Very catchy it is. Call it an earworm if you want. Still I wouldn't scream a winning entry but... we will see. In Patricia Kaas like ending me thinks.

Blogilkar Exclusive: RAMBO AMADEUS INTERVIEW

My flying reporter Robert met Rambo Amadeus in his hotel this morning and what an interesting and entertaining meet it was! Unfortunately the time wasn't enough as this man has lots to tell about many topics. However, here are the main things! Thank you Rambo for this interview and first of all, how an earth Montenegro wanted you to represent them in Eurovision? I don't know! I really don't know. I didn't want to ask any questions why they wanted me. So they came to you, you didn't go to them? Of course. Everybody comes to me..... And everybody knows you and that you are bit, maybe a lot, Eurovision skeptic. Why did they come to you then? Well, I think they want the audience to pay attention to them? I think the new, young and ambitious director of RTCG decided to do some kind of shock therapy. He probably thinks there's nothing to lose. I asked him "Are you sure? Do you know my work?" and he said yes. I think they are learning how to g

GREECE: HELENA PAPARIZOU HITS AGAIN WITH HAIDE

Eurovision song contest 2005 winner Helena Paparizou has been enjoying Top-5 hits every year since 2003 with the exception of 2010 and 2014, this latest one being already her 27th! And Haide is charting also in Bulgaria and Finland, of all places. The catchiness of her hits has changed less over the years than her face....  Here's the English version , below the Greek version.

REMEMBERING MARILYN MONROE

It's 50 years since Marilyn Monroe passed away on August 5, 1962. Her legend still lives on and there's no doubt she got "it". Probably very much misunderstood and surely underrated she remains one of the biggest stars on this planet ever. How many fans have really seen her movies, I mean all of them? Not only the 2-3 most successful ones where she played pretty much the same dumb blond? Thee's so much more to her if you watch all her work.... And had she lived. She would be 86 now.  Like this .
