LIVE: SANREMO 2013 - TERZA SERATA

The third night in Sanremo is about to start. All the 14 Big category singers will sing and be voted tonight. The remaining four Newcomers will sing as well and only two of them will go on to tomorrow's final, while the televote for the Big counts 25% of the final result.

20.46 Here we go again. RAI has changed finally the Eurovision theme (they used the old one the first night ;-))  It's San Valentino so the evening starts with a love film and then a fighting couple Fabio and Luciana are on stage and burst out singing off key Mietta & Minghi's Vattene amore. Then Fabio surprises Luciana with some flowers but the bouquet is about as big as she is.... asurprise kiss gets her really off and the evening starts with the wrong foot.... LOL
A recap of the 14 Big follows and the televote has been opened. No jury for them tonight, only televote so you in Italy, vote vote vote! And then we go....
20.57 Simona Molinari & Peter Cincotti - La Felicità ***
Simona has changed her dress to a long one and looks stunning. The song is a happy jazzy tune full of sunshine and summer holidays. I must admit I like this now much more than the first round....
21.02 Marco Mengoni - L'essenziale ****
Mengoni has also changed his suit, instead of blue a red one. He has also curled his hair. A very strong performance this time and not so many strange faces and rolling the eyes as usual.  Big applause. Very good indeed.... this starts to sound and look Eurovision worthy.
21.08 Elio e le storie tese - La canzone mononota *
This lesson of music with one note only is funny for the first time, if even that. This is genial and very educative and clever but not for this stage. How about kindergarten or schools? I repeat myself but I want in Sanremo (and Eurovision for that matter) real songs, not these cabaret numbers.
21.13 then we have a little chat with  Bebbe vessicchio, a legendary conductor with notable beard. Luciana wanted a souvenir from Sanremo, a bit of Bebbe's beard of course. said and done, scissors and a plastic bag that end between her breasts..... LOL!
21.15 Malika Ayane - E se poi ****
A new dress for Malika or maybe it's the same with added collarpiece? Anyways very elegant and smooth. beautiful melody, light and a bit retro.  This makes me think of some 1960's movie for some reason. Would be also an elegant choice for Eurovision, but maybe not strong. Meanwhile she has released a video for her other entry, Niente. Makes me think she would have preferred that one perhaps... and that would be a great entry for Eurovision indeed!
21.26 After adds we are back. Luciana has something to say about men and love....  and love in general this day of San Valentino. And the gay theme returns: love is love, no matter who you love. And then we get to the point, violance against women. Every 2-3 days a man kills a woman in Italy. She gives a very strong speech about women's rights. Brava!
Then she joins in to dance with 200 women Break the chain, the theme song of 1Billion rising. Today this flash mob has been dances all around the world by millions of women. Maybe Luciana can't sing or dance but tonight's she's really putting herself out there!
21.40 Marta sui tubi - Vorrei **
Not much to say about this one. Not my cup of tea, rather uninsteresting in every way. I preferred their other song, it had something special at least in its lyrics.
21.46 Chiara - Il futuro che sará ***
The song is pleasant but that's all. Somehow I find it fake. At moments it looks like even she's a bit bored with it. Not very convincing I'm afraid. She's pretty good though.
21.50 Time for some football and Roberto Baggio... a living legend for those who run after a ball and watch others running after the ball..... these days active in humanitary work. And very rarely in TV or giving interviews so this is an Event. He has an open letter to the youth of today.  After Luciana's monologue the evening continues with great speeches. Bravo Fazio!
And standing ovation for Baggio. A well deserved one, too.
22.09 Max Gazzé - Sotto casa ****
Max has changed his suit and doesn't look like a circus director so much anymore. I like this more tonight that before but maybe the performance was better the last time? This has something of an old German schlager, the intro as a doorbell and the outro as Lolololololollooo.... Strangely capitivating.
22.17 Annalisa - Scintille ***
Another retro-schlager. Is this some new trend in Italy pushing away the classic Italian ballads? Anyways, she performs very well in her granny's underwear. Her other song was much better and way more credible.
22.21 Maria Nazionale - È colpa mia ****
She's the revelation of this festival for me. I loved her other song but this one's very good, too. Full of passion and traditionI hope RAI would have a courage to send another Napoletan artist to Eurovision after such a long time. She's fabulous. Period. Oh, and huge applause!
22.27 Simone Cristicchi - La prima volta (che sono morto) **
After Bebbe's beard, Maria's booms Luciana makes fun of Simone's hair. She tried to return the beard to Bebbe after he conducted Maria's song as he looked to have taken it bad but Bebbe was a sport and gave the bag to her... Peace made. Ok, this song? Another retro-schlager, what else? Funny lyrics, quite nice melody but I don't know how many times this will be funny and nice? Not many I suspect.

22.30 Apparently Cascada were Glorious in Germany and won. Guaranteed high votes from Finland then..... I will catch up with that later, I have decided to concentrate on Sanremo full time this time....

22.37 Time for a special guests, Antony & The Johnsons doing You're my sister live, with the big orchestra. isnät that great? No play-back or sing-back, all live and orchestrated. After his fantastic performance also he talks about women's rights. Women are the key to our future survival.
23.47 Luciana talks about her dresses, each night a different young designer. She was afraid she would do damage to their career rather than promotion, lol!
22.49 Modà - Se ti potesse non morire ***
Better sung tonight but it's still painful to watch him sing at times. The song is a bit flat, not going anywhere. In Eurovision terms: Where's the keychange?! Gets rather boring very fast. But they do have a lot of fans to vote them tonight.... and apparently even dentro Teatro Ariston judging the applause.
22.54 Daniele Silvestri - A bocca chiusa ****
Very simple and captivating. Somehow the sign language guy now doesn't disturb me anymore, rather I follow him instead and try to understand.... Fascinating.  And the mute singing makes people applaude in the middle of the song. A good sign. And mind you, I never was a Silvestri fan!
Fazio reminds about the televote that counts 25% tonight, and other 25% of the one of Saturday night while the remaining 50% is the jury.
23.06 Almamegretta - Mamma non lo sa ****
One of my favorites! Raiz is great and the song is a kind of reggae I like. Don't know how the general public will vote for them. Not much I'm afraid. But I'd love to see them even in Malmö 2013!
23.11 Raphael Gualazzi - Sai (Ci basta un sogno) ***
This is no Madness of love but something more difficult. He has changed to more stylish outfit. Not really my cup of tea but he's very convincing performer and makes me believe it. Premio della critica coming up? Televote is now closed and Fazio tells that as Raphael was the last one tonight, Saturday he will be the first. Apparently there will be the same but reversed order...
23.20 Before the Newcomers we wil have a young award winning pianist, Leonora Armellini (20),  who plays us some Chopin, her great love. Besides that she's a fan of Chiara!
23.27 Time to open the televote for the Newcomers. And the usual warnings about the abuse.... also this is Italy!
23.28 Andrea Nardinocchi - Storia impossibile ***
One of those who has it harrd to keep his eyes open on stage, or look at the camera. Anyways, the song is kinda nice but forgettable. He has a table and laptop on stage and was doing some sort of sampling and stuff, too. I think...
23.33 Antonio Maggio - Mi servirebbe sapere ****
He already won X Factor with Aram Quartet a few moons ago and is now with ... another retro-schlager. But I like this one. This is jolly and happy and he has th twinkle in the eye and even the conductor joins in to sing. If Andrea was afraid of the camera, Antonio surely isn't!
23.37 Paolo Simoni - Le parole **
A traditional Italian ballad this one, would be more suitable for the Big category, lol. The one I was asking there. But this is a bit boring, I'm afraid. A very timid applause! Did the audience fall asleep?
23.43 Ilaria Porceddu - In equilibrio ****
She has a dress you cannot not notice! Besides that a lovely piano all through the song, very melodic, nicely song and if I'm not mistaken a part in Sardinian? I hope she qualifies with Antonio...
23.49 Stop al televoto! Next we will have Albano just like Toto Cutugno the first night and Ricchi e Poveri should have been last night. Awarded and singing a song or two... maybe he will manage to say something to cancel all the pro-gay things happened in Sanremo so far? We will see....
23.56 Albano enters singing Nostalgia canaglia (Sanremo 1987). He must feel a bit homesick, after all he has been on thta stage already 14 times... Then he continues with È la mia vita (Sanremo 1997) and gets a standing ovation. Then he does push ups on stage and kisses it. Homesick indeed! Then he does Felicità, voted by the poeple as his best Sanremo song.
I miss Romina Power.... actress laura Chiatta plays Romina.... sigh....
It gets even worse when Luciana takes the stage as Romina! Well, at least they are the same height!
00.12 It's time for the newcomers results.... Antonio Maggio! Yes... and then... Ilaria Porceddu! Great! And then the situation with the Big..... but before that pubblicitá!
00.17 And here's the envelope... when Luciana and Fabio start to read the names audience whistles and boos so much that they ask them to do it first, and then they announce the next name.... and this voting weights 25% of the final votes. here:
14. Almamegretta
13. Marta sui tubi
12. Malika Ayane !!!
11. Simone Cristicchi
10. Max Gazzé !!
9. Daniele Silvestri
8. Elio e le storie tese !!! phew...
7. Maria nazionale
6. Simona & Peter
5. Raphael Gualazzi
4. Chiara
3. Annalisa
2. Modà
1. Marco Mengoni

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

SONGS OF THE YEAR 2015: #5 KRISTA SIEGFRIDS - ON & OFF

Krista Siegfrids is delivering nice pop tunes one after another and this one is particularly catchy and soon you will be singing along..... Hopefully her Melodifestivalen entry will be equally good!

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further?  No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

Blogilkar exclusive: PASHA PARFENI INTERVIEW

My flying reporter Robert managed to get hold on Pasha Parfeni from Moldova today who has become during this week pretty big favorite to do well. How did he end up in Eurovision, what his goals are and is his granny better than the ones from Buranovo? And will we get a cover album full of Eurovision later on? Find it out here: Why do you want to participate in Eurovision? That's a very difficult question... I want to be a star! A worldstar, ha ha! But I know it's not easy even in Eurovision, only Celine Dion and ABBA have made it. But I can make myself a bit more known, it's good for promotion. After Eurovision I will finish my album and my promo-CD already has nine songs. We will recod maybe 4-5 more and it will make a good album. With what result will you be happy here? Happy? … Top-10! Then I'll be absolutely happy! So if you don't get to the final you will be totally depressed? Yes, maybe... Yes, it would be hard. For me and my team. What are y

GOODBYE, FAREWELL...

The time has come. After all these years, 5,7 million visits, 12.000 articles I guess the time has come. As much as I love and care for Eurovision it just doesn't feel the same. The Corona years took their toll and the past two years and certain decisions have helped me to mature the idea that next year I will hear the songs for the first time in semi-final just like any so called local.  The bubble has burst. Add the toxicity in social medias and fandom. The arrogant teenagers who saw their first contest somewhere 2017 or even 2021 who think they know it all and only their opinion matters. Did I mention the toxic atmosphere on social medias? I'm too old for that sh*t. It's been a long ride that took me to various Eurovision on spot as a fan and tourist,  as a journalist, as a delegation member. I met some great people, made memories of lifetime. In stressful, sad periods of my life this blog has been my safe place, a place to escape and forget everything else for an hour o

BLOGILKAR EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: HANNAH MANCINI

Straight into interview with my Bycycling reporter Robert goes American born Slovenian represent Hannah Mancini. The chatty lady tells us how she ended up from LA to Slovenia and how it is. She does also some serious name dropping. Talks about Slovenian music business. And has her husband turned into an Eurovision maniac?! And how Slovenian does she feel actually? And who would she like to grace the Eurovision stage for Slovenia again? Read it all here: Thank you Hannah for this interview. You're an American woman singing for Slovenia. How on earth did you end up there? I married a Slovenian man! Actually he lived in the States when I met him. I always loved the idea of living in Europe and it was kinda perfect as I met an European man! And he always wanted to come to Europe, his parents emigrated when he was a small child so eventually when the opportunity came, he had a good business thing happening there and also I had some music contacts in Amsterdam and in the UK an

Summer songs: Kylie Minogue - On a night like this

This is one of the songs that make me think of sweaty summer nights, humid air and being slightly drunk... I wonder where that all comes from? Anyways. Kylie Minogue recorded On a night like this, maybe not first but better than Pandora or Anna Vissi . And Lord which is actually great!

CAROLA'S BOOBS STEAL THE SHOW, SVT APOLOGIES

Update! Another thing got Swedes talking last night: Carola's boobs when she was giving away an award. This is not the first time her boombs cause headlines; her misfortunate adventures in the 80's in Japan wer explained with her boobs being too big for Japanese market. Ok.... Or was it the song ? Anyways, Carola apologies and says she thinks the dress is stylish and elegant (even her friends said so) and she's a mature woman in her 40s, not a 16-year-old girl and looks like one. The Swedish Oscars, Guldbagge awards were given out last night. Carola was there as a guest star to sing Barbra Streisand's The way we were when honoring the movie stars who passed away during 2012. However, the cameras were too much on Carola, not on the stars showed in photos in the background and that upset many viewers as that part of the show was to celebrate them, not Carola. Oh well...  The producer of the show tells in Aftonbladet the part of the show was made the sam

GREECE: HELENA PAPARIZOU HITS AGAIN WITH HAIDE

Eurovision song contest 2005 winner Helena Paparizou has been enjoying Top-5 hits every year since 2003 with the exception of 2010 and 2014, this latest one being already her 27th! And Haide is charting also in Bulgaria and Finland, of all places. The catchiness of her hits has changed less over the years than her face....  Here's the English version , below the Greek version.
